❓ Image Metadata (EXIF/XMP) Removal (FAQ)
This tool attempts to remove image metadata (EXIF / XMP / PNG text chunks, etc.) directly in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to any server; everything happens on your device. Some metadata fields may appear differently depending on the format.
Where does the processing happen? Is my file uploaded?
All processing happens inside your browser. Your file is not sent to a server and is not stored anywhere. Speed depends on your device performance, image size, and format complexity.
Which formats are supported?
In the FREE version, the main goal is metadata removal for JPEG / PNG / WebP images. The visible fields depend on whether the file actually contains metadata and on how each format stores tags.
Will removing metadata reduce image quality?
The goal is to keep pixels unchanged and remove only the metadata layer. In most cases the image stays identical. However, some files may require re-encoding, so the file size can change.
Are transparency and color profile preserved?
Transparency is preserved. For color profile handling, the “Keep color information” option in the panel applies. If the file has no ICC/color profile data, there may be nothing to preserve.
Which metadata is risky? What should I remove?
The most sensitive fields are GPS location, device model/serial, capture date, software history, and author/owner info. For images you plan to share publicly, removing everything is usually the safest choice.
Why do some fields not show up or appear empty?
Not every file contains the same metadata fields. Also, JPEG/PNG/WebP store metadata differently. If a tag does not exist in the file, it may not appear in the panel or may show as empty.
How can I get the best result?
Start with “Remove all” for a safe cleanup. If you notice any color shift, keep “Keep color information” enabled. Very large images may take longer; testing with a smaller version can be faster.
Tip: Location (GPS), camera model, capture date, and software info can be shared unintentionally. Removing metadata before sharing is a good privacy habit.
